Isaiah Class Recap: April

Melissa taught us a great lesson about how Isaiah saw our day.  Through pondering the layered meanings of his writings, we can gain an overall understanding of how our Heavenly Father deals with His children, and what is prepared for us in the last days.  The end is foretold by events that occurred in the beginning, the future mirroring the past.  Isaiah’s literary structures, by making archetypes of Zion and Babylon and their two kings, tell of a dramatic contest between good and evil that will take place at the end of the world.
Bruce R McConkie summed it up:  Of all the ancient prophets, he is the one whose recorded words preserve for us the good news of restoration, of the gospel coming again, of the everlasting covenant once more being established, of the kingdom being restored to Israel, of the Lord’s triumphant return, and of a reign of millennial splendor.

Isaiah Class Re-cap: March

Nest Class: April 19th @ Teresa Vincent's home 7pm

The subject discussed in March was “Messianic Isaiah”.  Melissa emphasized that Isaiah taught and prophesied of the pre-mortal, mortal and millennial mission of Jesus Christ.  The Jews did not understand the messianic message, and missed completely the great blessings from comprehending these teachings that could have pointed them to Christ.  Our advantage today to have the Book of Mormon as a companion study of much of Isaiah helps us to see how inspired, intelligent and instructive Isaiah was in testifying of the Savior of the world.
Jeffrey R Holland has said: “Isaiah is by every standard the messianic prophet of the Old Testament and as such is the most penetrating prophetic voice in that record.”

Many people love and quote Isaiah 53 because of its moving testimony of the mission of Jesus Christ. This chapter contains Isaiah’s prophecy of a Messiah who would save His people, not by the sword and war, but through humble suffering.  Isaiah’s layered verses can teach us of Jesus Christ more in depth than any other prophet.
